What makes Uneeda Filmtek great for solid surface
Uneeda is known for innovation and quality abrasives. The company’s Filmtek is perfect for anyone doing countertop fabrication and installation. It can even handle jobs for companies that make cabinets and countertops — sanding everything from solid surfaces to metal and wood.
But that’s not the only great thing about Filmtek.
Qualities
Filmtek is flexible, durable, and waterproof. How durable? According to Uneeda, it lasts two or sometimes three times longer than paper discs because it’s hard to tear.
It also has state-of-the-art design features. The disc contains stearate, a lubricant to keep your sanding disc running cooler. Particles slide out, making the disc clog-resistant. The plastic backing and paper-like front offer the best of all worlds: it’s durable like cloth a disc, yet it provides the same consistency as paper.
Strong and versatile
For those who like to get into what the disc is made of, here are some of the more technical specifications of Uneeda’s Filmtek.
- Grain is aluminum oxide – a synthetic abrasive grain
- Backing film
- Bonding is resin over resin, making a stronger bond
- Coating is semi-open, which means the grain isn’t as dense
Availability
Filmtek is available in 5- and 6-inch diameters, hook & loop, and PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) with popular dust-free hole patterns. It’s available in sheets. Basically, whatever you need to grind solid surface jobs, Uneeda has an option.
Applications based on grits
What job you’re performing dictates the grit you should be using.
- Use 120-180 grit for heavy scratch removal. This will usually bring the solid surface sheet back up to the raw finish (as if from the manufacturer).
- Use 220-320 grit to remove and refine.
- Use 320-1000 grit to produce the final finish of matte, satin to high gloss, and everything in between.
