VSM – powerful countertop fabrication abrasives
At Elevated Industrial Solutions, formerly known as Lane Supply Company, we specialize in understanding your business and providing a range of solutions to improve your company’s processes. We love introducing people to new products that enhance quality, save time, and reduce costs. One of these solutions? Abrasives from VSM. And its tagline is absolutely true … they know abrasives.

About VSM
VSM is a German manufacturing company founded in 1864 by Siegmund Oppenheim. He and his brother-in-law, Siegmund Seeligmann, started small but grew globally. They grew into new abrasive lines like ceramics and diamond abrasives. Today, VSM is in more than 70 countries! VSM’s U.S. facility is in O’Fallon, Missouri, close to St. Louis.
VSM has a fantastic line of abrasives, but the brand itself isn’t widely known in the U.S., especially in the countertop industry. Despite that, VSM has lasted 150+ years and can tackle your toughest challenges (and hardest materials!).
What does VSM stand for?
It’s not “vehicle safety manufacturing” or “value stream map” (part of the Lean manufacturing process). VSM stands for: Vereinigte Schmirgel- und Maschinen-Fabriken.
What does that mean? According to Google Translate, it means, “United emery and machine factories.”
If you do a lot of sanding, you know that emery is a small, dark mineral that consists of corundum with iron oxide impurities (such as magnetite).
Our picks for VSM sanding products
Although we’d need to know some of your challenges, we have a go-to list of VSM products. Some of our favorites include these two products:
- DA930X – Diamond Abrasives for high precision work, including cutting stone
- CP501 – a silicon carbide – belt
Here are the benefits and reasons why we chose these two products:
DA930X – Diamond Abrasives
If you’re dealing with hard stone, you already know how tricky it can be to do high-precision cutting. These super abrasives can be unwieldy, but the DA930X is a diamond that’s versatile and lasts a long-time. It’s worth the investment.
Some of the benefits include:
- Long life
- Consistent surface quality
- High stock removal
- Temperature resistance
- Great for high-precision work on stone

CP501K – Silicon Carbide
The CP501 is a hard-working abrasive, working as a disc sander or angle grinder. It works on various surfaces – wood and metal – too.
Some of the benefits include:
- High cutting rate
- Fine scratch pattern
- Good flatness
- High strength
- Good grain adhesion

Summary: Worth the money
Of course, everyone has their favorite sanding tools and belts. Some people may prefer 3M for their specific work. (That’s great – we love 3M and sell them as well.) But VSM is worth another look. They’re not well known, yet have flexible abrasives that are high quality. They’re hard to beat, with 150 years of abrasive knowledge. Plus, they’re German-manufactured and engineered, doing the job every time.
